Holes in Light at Deep Space 8K

Holes in Light at Deep Space 8K of Ars Electronica Museum in Linz, in the frame of ArtEO, after the Opening Gala at this year's Ars Electronica Festival.

My thanks to all who came to the ARS ELECTRONICA - Deep Space 8K room in Linz Thursday night to see the special program of ArtEO Art for Earth, of which my live performance "Holes in Light" was a part.

For this special occasion, I have reworked my "Holes in Light" into a new version specific to the particular high-tech space, as well as adapted it to be a live performance. I am grateful for the special energy of the people present this evening who really helped make this an unforgettable experience.

“Holes in Light” is composed of various satellite images of Earth’s so-called tender-vulnerable zones. By layering my shadow imagery from my “Gr@y Matter - Language of Shadows” series, traces of human activity are visualized. “We all have shadows, no matter what ethnicity, religion, gender, language… shadows hold within themselves all that was, and all that can still be. Therefore, they could be seen as social equalizers.

From Francisca Tan, art curator at ArtEO, presenting Holger Lang's video upon receiving the Hubert Sielecki Preis in Vienna:

"By combining data about human activities on Earth with satellite images and annotating them with shadow images, Eva Petric shows the shadow of humanity on Earth. The video is a poetic apology from man to nature."

My thanks to Hayato Nakao for the beautiful and inspiring music that he created for Holes in Light and Fransisca Tan for all the coordinating and organizing to make this possible, to Sitara Kapur for her kind help, and Ravi Kapur, initiator of ArtEO, Katrin curator of the project at Ars Electronica, Thomas Kollmann, technician of the program and Deep Space 8K, and all other ArtEO pioneers who have made this possible: JP Carrascal (CO), Tom deMajo (UK), Eva Petric (SI), Sock Redding (NZ), Daniel Rosero (CO), and Fransisca Tan (AT).
