Secret Garden@Recycled Stories

This year's arrival of spring will be marked at the Vič Center by a unique, spatially specific artistic installation by internationally renowned Slovenian artist Eva Petrič.

From the start of spring (opening on March 20 at 5 pm) until April 20, 2025, this versatile artist, who lives and creates between Slovenia, Vienna and New York in the media of photography, video, sound, performance and installations, will present part of her renown lace installations at all three entrances to the Vič Center and in its central part. These have been exhibited in public spaces in different parts of the world, from the famous St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, to the UN General Assembly in New York and the third largest cathedral in the world, St. John the Divine in New York, from the Borges Cultural Center in Buenos Aires to the Biwako Biennale in Japan, from the underground of Postojna Cave to the edge of space, to the International Space Station in Earth low orbit, where in 2022 her mini lace art object Earthling Tattoo Seal was part of testing in the frame of the MoonGallery that lasted a year.

Secret Garden@Recycled Stories is a garden of emotions that grows and blooms with human connections through space and time, intertwining happiness, sadness, gratitude and vulnerability. It is a garden of the past, present and future, recycled from voices, desires and traditions, but also a garden of emotions and feelings that are increasingly threatened by the penetration of information technology. Could this be a garden of once-flowering feelings that are now sinking into oblivion?

Secret Garden@Recycled Story consists of hundreds of handmade lace doilies from all over the world – some found at flea markets, others inherited, many without known creators – but each of them carries a purpose, a feeling, a story that connects us in a multi-layered network of humanity. May this garden connect us with our ancestors, rooted in the present and inspire us to preserve traditions in the garden of the future,  says Eva Petrič.

The Secret Garden @ a recycled story will be at the Vič Center until April 20th.

Viewing is possible every day except Sundays from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

The Secret Garden@Recycled Stories is a garden that is constantly growing and accepts found and donated laces of all sizes, colors and shapes, helping to build and preserve the collective story of human emotions. If you have any lace doilies that you can part with, you are invited to bring them here while the exhibition lasts. In the new installation, it will take on a new life and contribute to recycling and connecting our shared stories.

Thank you to the team and the project manager who so masterfully helped me place the "Secret Garden of Recycled Stories" in the space of the Vič Center.
