My Bird of Hope for Peace

on its mission to Vienna —at the Wiener Konzerthaus on the occasion of the Peace Child Concert, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia to Austria and the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia to the United Nations in Vienna, marking 80 years of the United Nations and 80 years since the end of the World War II.

Bird of Hope for Peace, is an artwork by Eva Petrič. It consists of a thousand handmade lace roses, created by lacemakers from eleven countries as part of the Roses of Hope project (2023–2024) at the initiative of the Idrija Lace School and the Idrija Tourist Board, based on the lace pattern of Maja Svetlik. The roses, donated to the artist Eva Petrič at the Idrija Lace Festival 2024, were combined by Petrič into a collective work that symbolically came to life on the site of the former Mauthausen concentration camp located on the Ljubelj Pass. There, in the “circle of hope that cannot be broken,” the Bird of Hope for Peace was born, connecting the personal wishes of the lacemakers with the painful history of the former camp, reminding us that hope is essential for peace.

The Peace Child concert and reception, at which the mission of the Bird of Hope for Peace was presented by the Slovenian Ambassador to Austria, Marko Štucin, was also attended (with her presence and address) by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovenian Government and the Minister for European and Foreign Affairs, Ms. Tanja Fajon.
