My Holes in Light

I am honored to share that my video "Holes in Light" was awarded the Kuenstlerhaus Hubert Sielecki Preis 2024. Thanks to all who joined yesterday's presentation of my and all other nominees' videos at Stadtkino in Vienna.

I’m honored and happy to be this year’s recipient of the renowned Hubert Sielecki prize for short films and animation with a special emphasis on poetic and innovative, experimental ways!

I am grateful to Hubert Sielecki for his kind and critical eye, and for inspiring so many to follow their dreams in the world of filmmaking in unconventional and poetic ways.

My thanks also to arteo.earth for all the satellite imagery I use in my video.

My thanks also to Holger Lang, who, together with Martina Tritthart and Hubert Sielecki, put together yesterday's interesting program and curated the regular monthly Freies Kino program, presenting unusual moving images that are rarely seen anywhere else. The title of the film series is to be understood in two ways: on the one hand, as a cinema that shows exciting, bizarre, strange, and provocative cinematic works that are detached, i.e., free of all conventions. On the other hand, free admission enables as many people as possible to take this exciting journey of discovery into unusual worlds of images.

From the presentation of my video "Holes in Light":

"By combining data on human activities on Earth with satellite images and commenting on them with shadow images, the author shows the shadow of humanity on Earth. In a figurative sense, shadows can also be read as "holes of light" that can convey something to us that we might not otherwise perceive.

Shadows are part of us, part of our world; they accompany us, and we should accept them so that we can reflect on and adapt to the consequences of our actions.

The film is a poetic apology from man to nature."

If you didn't manage to join the presentation yesterday, you are kindly invited on July 25th at V&V Galerie, Am Bauernmarkt 19, 1010 Vienna, for a special evening presentation event at 19:30, during which "Holes in Light" will also be shown at 20:00.
