About the Event

"This year marks ten years since the desire to find lace for the Hematoma art installation brought me to Idrija. The idea of translating photographs of shadows from my periodic table of shadow emotions into a pattern of Idrija lace did not seem impossible to Maja Svetlik from the Idrija Lace School. In collaboration with her and the lacemakers of the experimental group, I managed to realize the wish and place concrete Idrija lace in a universal modern context with a meaning acceptable to any environment. Shadow emotions, translated into the twists and turns of Idrija lace and captured in jewelry and crystal, as well as in large spatial installations, reflect not only the twists and turns of life, but also the interweaving. An interweaving that connects us into an unconscious pattern like threads in Idrija lace. We are like threads caught in the loops of emotions in the pattern of past and future generations… ”(Eva Petrič)

For several years now, the author has been including lace from different parts of the world in her artwork, made in different techniques. At the present exhibition, he presents several independent works of art and collections of useful products, which were inspired by Idrija lace. They were concluded by members of the experimental group of the Idrija Lace School under the mentorship of Maja Svetlik, and some also by Irma Vončina. We get to know the lacemaker at the E@motion EVA video project.

The coronavirus pandemic prompted Eva Petrič to create the Crown of the Rose, a symbol of hope. With the inclusion of bobbin rose petals of lacemakers of the experimental group, it grew into the Collective Crown Rose, which is expected to be on display in the Vienna Cathedral of St. Stefan. Artwork Crown Rose no. 2, in three sentences, after tours in Vienna, Munich and Bern this summer on display in the parish church of St. Jožef in Idrija.

It will remain on view till August 31.
