About the Event
I am happy to share that my art designed carpet : „On My Flying Carpet of E@motion", commissioned by Equator Production, will be a part of the unique exhibition headed by Equator Production and BravinLee Editions, hosted by Tanja Grunert.
„On My Flying Carpet of E@motion,“, a 100% Tibetan Wool, Hand Knotted in Nepal, 2 x 3 m, Edition 6 + 3 AP, 2018 is based off my analog black and white photography from my cycle Gr@y Matter – language of shadows, for which i received the prestigious Vordemberge Gildewart Grant in 2010. In this project, which resulted in the 1025 pages book of the artist and my periodic table of shadowed emotions, i explored the ephemeral world of shadows with its communication abilities and paralleled it to the phenomena of emotions.
The current exhibition opening July 31 at Princess Beatrix House (21 Prospect Ave., Hudson, NY) provides a view of how these two ground-breaking carpet makers meld the creative process of artists, decorative arts and artisanal production.
Equator Production, founded in 1985 by German artist Petra Singh, sought to reinvent a realm of art fallen into obscurity since the 1930s. Equator Production is the fresh incarnation of a major 20th century tradition that is now remembered only among specialists.
Mesmerized by the tactile splendor of Indian and Nepalese carpets as a unique tableau for works by contemporary artists, Singh’s initial group included Rosemarie Trockel, Walter Dahn, Jiri Georg Dokoupil, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Joseph Kosuth, Peter Nagy, Rob Scholte, Donald Baechler and others.
Her new roster of artists includes Alan Belcher, Liam Gillick, Emilia & Ilya Kabakov, Joseph Kosuth, Ken Lum, Jonathan Monk, Peter Nagy, Eva Petrič, Adam Pendleton, Johnathan Monk, Paul Jacobsen, Julião Sarmento, Rob Scholte, Rosemarie Trockel and Heimo Zobernig.
Come and find the carpet that brings you the most comfort and adventures!
