About the Event

The famous Vienna Cathedral of St. Stephan, which, in addition to holding the record for tourist visits in the whole of Austria for years, has in recent years also become the scene of unique art installations and interventions that receive a lot of media attention. After a rather provocative installation by Erwin Wurm, currently one of the best-selling artists in the world, and after Billy Tanner's pop artistic ladder to heaven, the cathedral management invited me to participate again in 2023 - after 2016, when I was hosted there with my huge Collective heart and floating "emotional clouds" of recycled lace attracting  wide attention.

My huge Collective Heart formed from recycled lace at the Stephansdom Vienna 2016, as featured by the National Geographic.

This time I'm preparing a new large work, the puzzle Human Cocoon in the size of 9.5 m x 4.5 m. Its 12 parts will spread over 32 square meters and form an Earthling (in the pattern of Idrija lace), placed against the background of an image of a mixture of red blood cells of three individuals: artist (myself), the doctor/scientist and the priest, representing the three activities that distinguish us humans from the rest of our fellow earthlings:  Art, Science and Spirituality.

I created the Earthling in the pattern of Idrija lace already some time ago, translating my shadow into Idrija lace, and from February last year until January 9th this year, it was tapped in its micro form,  within a cubic centimeter of Plexiglas, at the International Space Station as a part of the Moon Gallery, a collection of ideas worth channeling into space. After its successful return to Earth on January 9th this year, on February 21st, one year after landing on the International Space Station, it will become, in its greatly oversized form, part of the Human Cocoon installation in Vienna.

Human Cocoon will remain in this famous, according to many, the most beautiful Gothic cathedral in Central Europe, until April 7th. On April 8th it will transform into a trio of human butterflies, the installation Human Butterfly@ArtScienceSpirituality, which will float under the high ceiling of the cathedral until June 5th. During this time, I will also present the exhibition Playing the Angel -AngelHound@Hz, at the Curhaus next to the cathedral on Stephansplatz in the very heart of old Vienna.

Hope to see you at the opening of the Human Cocoon installation which will take place on Tuesday, February 21st, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. at the High Altar in the Cathedral of St. Stephan in Vienna.
