Ballots Not Bullets

White Box is pleased to present the topical and timely Ballots Not Bullets that will open on October 31th., with live performances on November 8 from 6 pm to 12 am, which will also be the day of the 2022 Midterm Elections.  Ballots Not Bullets is an international, mixed-media art exhibition that takes its cue from an eponymous quote by Abraham Lincoln during the Reconstruction period after his historic Emancipation Proclamation that ended slavery. His clarion call entailed pleading with all American citizens to vote and exercise democracy rather than resort to violence that had almost ended the burgeoning American experiment during the Civil War. I am happy to share that my work: "For the Luv of NYC" 2008 (2022) has been accepted to be part of the group juried exhibit „Ballots Not Bullets“ …“responding to the politically, economically and morally tortuous times, as people in the US are faced with the most significant Midterm election ever defining for better or worse our common future", in the words of the exhibit curators Juan Puentes and Raul Zamudio.

I have been living between NYC and Europe ever since 2000, going back and forth, being fortunate as well as unfortunate enough to see it always from a bit of an outsider's point of view. Between 2000- 2022 I have seen NYC change and grow for better and for worse. And I have felt NYC change me, always for the better, in all -ways. Through it I appreciate more nature, that is scarce to find, silence that feels like a safety blanket, a helping hand that makes me believe in angels...And nevertheless, there is no city like it...NYC is a constantly growing organism, that does not wait for your input to grow, but instead invites you to grow as a result of your interaction with it. And yet, it is a city like no other - a melting pot of all peoples, existing together, sharing in the vision of freedom, living to feel this freedom based on love. This is the NYC i know and also wish for you to know...
