JEWELRY by EVA PETRIČ

CHROMOSOMES IN LOVE

The Chromosomes in Love collection, a jewelry line by AE Koechert Vienna in collaboration with artist Eva Petrič, evolves from and expresses the role of love in life. Love transcends generations, as does jewelry, which is often a token of love. Jewelry is given with love, is accepted with love and is kept with love.

The unique design of this collection stems from Eva Petrič’s art series Gr@y Matter – The Language of Shadows, for which she was awarded with the Vordemberge Gildewart Foundation grant in 2010. With this project, Eva investigated the communication abilities of shadows to express and visualize emotions as in her Periodic Table of Shadowed Emotions.

According to Eva Petrič, emotions are like shadows…ungraspable. Appearing and disappearing, they often trick us. They are like the twists and turns in Eva's shadow image, translated into patterns of lace, showing not only the zig-zags and twists and turns of life, but also interweaving and connecting us, just as love does.  “We are like threads, caught in loops of emotions in patterns of past and future generations,” states Eva Petrič.

For the Chromosomes in Love jewelry collection she used the “heart” part of her lace shadow image Stem Cell Potential, the symbol of Love. This heart part of gold and colorful gems, echoes contemporary attitudes of the younger generation and, at the same time, reflects tradition, an inherent, though often unconscious part of Love.

The form of the chromosome, which is the base form of this collection, reflects and accentuates the presence of heritage - a part of each of us and which we all accept and, knowingly or unknowingly, pass onto future generations, as chromosomes do.

Furthermore, scientists recently discovered that the longer our telomeres - the top ends of our chromosomes - the longer we will live and love and be loved. Therefore, let’s treasure the Chromosomes in Love. Its unique design enables the telomeric contact between the gems and the skin of the individual wearing the Chromosomes in Love jewelry pieces.

Although such findings are not yet proven, gems are often claimed to generate positive effects on our well-being. Or, as Eva Petrič states, “LOVE BEGINS AND CONTINUES WITH CHROMOSOMES.”

Chromosomes in love jewlery collection is available at the A.E. Koechert store in Vienna, Neuer Markt 15.

COMPASS

Compass series stems from my project Gr@y Matter – language of shadows, exploring the communication abilities of shadows. In the periodic table, borrowed from the natural sciences, I replaced chemical elements with emotions visualized with images of shadows. Emotions are like shadows: we all have them, whether we acknowledge them or not. Ungraspable, appearing and disappearing they often trick us. They are like the twists and turns in my shadow image, translated into Idrija lace, passing from black to white and negative to positive. Hand engraved into crystal they reflect the tradition and heritage of Idrija lace and place it – through universality and timelessness of shadows from the periodic table of shadowed emotions - into the contemporary globalized world.

The pieces of jewelry contain hand engraved images of the Stem Cell, translated from my Shadows&puppets image into Idrija lace and caught into an antique piece of crystal. Hung from recycled rosemaries the Stem cell reflects the past and at the same time leads in the future.

Compass series was selected among the finalists of the Austria Elegius Schmuckpreis 2016

FILTER

Filter series stems from my project Gr@y Matter -language of shadows and is exploring the communication abilities of shadows. In the periodic table, borrowed from the natural sciences, I replaced chemical elements with emotions, visualized with images of shadows. Emotions are like shadows: ungraspable, appearing and disappearing they often trick us. They are like the twists and turns in my shadow image translated into Idrija lace, passing from black to white and negative to positive with their epicenter in the heart, brain and stomach. Their details caught into jewelry act like filtering emotions… they reflect tradition and heritage of Idrija lace. The universality and timelessness of shadows from my periodic table of shadowed emotions place the lace into the contemporary globalized world.
