About the Event

Mag. Andreja Rakovec (from the accompanying catalogue):

...Eva Petrič works as a multimedia artist in the field of photography, video, performance, spatial installations and sculpture. In spatial layouts, she connects all of the above, thus creating complex wholes that become multisensory by including the visual, the tactile, smell and sound. Her primary artistic genre, however, is photography, as she began her artistic career with it...

...For the exhibition Memory Game of Thorns & Roses Eva Petrič  has chosen photos from the series I didn't promise you a rose garden, which are here on display for the first time....

...The title of the photo series I didn't promise you a rose garden, which in a slightly modified English translation sounds like the title of a famous song, novel and film, is a statement that confronts the person for whom reality is as it is and not allowing of embellishments. And it is precisely this relationship between reality and the departure from it that is the central theme of the exhibition. Namely, the artist also thematises indulging in daydreaming and longing, which she completes with the installation of monumental lace nets, Memory WEBS (Memory WEB 1-3) from 2020-2021, which float like clouds under the glass ceiling of the exhibition center. It should be noted that this is a rare case in the artist's oeuvre, when she exhibits photographs and recycled lace assemblages together. The webs that the artist sews from various laces are a recognizable sign of her creativity, as she has hosted numerous exhibitions at home and abroad with their installations....

Greetings from the studio at the Museums Quartier in Vienna, which was kindly available to me to use during my "Can You Swim?" installation in the MQ Art Box,  for the preparation of my Memory webs, which will hang under the glass ceiling of the ZRC Atrium in Ljubljana from 22 April to 19 May.
