About the Event
How do we connect to textiles? What ties can textiles as a material build within contemporary art practices and its audience? What stories do they reveal? What feelings do they evoke? These were the questions that led the Berliner art curator Neža Peterle to set up an interesting multimedia art show with the focus on twisting modernity and tradition featuring textiles. The resulting exhibition in Neurotitan gallery, the well known gallery in the centre of Berlin connects 14 international artists utilizing various art practices - textile art, installation art, photography, conceptual art, sound art - focusing on textiles as their means of expression or inspiration on a sensorial and metaphoric level. I am proud to participate with my multimedia installation Astrocyte Garden's Visitor, consisting of my giant recycled lace assemblage Astrocyte Garden and video projection Visitor.
As we look upwards into the ‘stellar' sky, we find ourselves likewise, as a part of the ‘inner cellular worlds’ - caught in lace compositions, the delicate webs that tie us together and make us a part of the greater collective web”…
My Astrocyte Garden's Visitor is my projection of a hologram like body moving from one lace assemblage to another, emerging from and sinking back into my collective skin of humanity (symbolized by the laces). This might with all the new technological advances and its effects on our lives create a hematoma which will affect all of us and our skin directly, not just metaphorically. The subtle presence of the hologram body is also my comment on the slyness of technology into our lives and its literal " getting under our skin" without us even really noticing it.
Astrocyte Garden's Visitor represents memories, wishes, anticipations embedded in the loops and twists and turns of lace patterns within which thoughts are born and nurtured and asks for us to keep these human bound, human run, human lived.
Kindly invited to see also the works of other participating artists at the Neurotitan Galerie or on the link: https://www.instagram.com/neurotitangallery/ Featuring artworks made through traditional or contemporary technologies and other artistic realisations the exhibition aims to open up a space to question the concepts of present and past, tradition and modernity, art and handicraft and how we perceive them in connection to textiles.
